Some Advice

A few months ago i went to a game dev north and met some amazing and inspiring people and one of the bits of advice that stuck was to do as much as you can in your final year of uni. i told them but how i'm already swamped and they said just find the time and do extra work for whatever comes up and so i have. Its lead me to meet some amazing and highly skilled people by doing so. the only probalem is time but i'm sure i can find a way one way or another.

one of the side projects i have been working on is called "Boom" and well here is the logo i have designed for it, hopefully we will see the game up on new-grounds in the coming weeks, i'll upload more when i can!

if you would like to find out more information you can got to : http://www.newgrounds.com/collection/construct2touchjam

Finding Respect

If there is one thing i could say to a past version of my self and that is work with people that respect you. working on this mini project has shown me that projects can be extremely fun as long as the people you work with respect you and you them.

On the work front i worked in uni with the new potential recruits and it made me dig out some of my old work so i think its fitting that i should upload some old work for today. an old project that i did a building design i chose a coffee shop styled after two of the coffee shops in Liverpool.

Finding time

something i struggle with along with plane distraction is the time to work, sitting down and working getting to be in the mood to work all adds up and by the time some work has been done more distraction has been made. i was watching an Q&A video from http://www.youtube.com/user/FZDSCHOOL its ran by Zhu Feng (anyone that is remotely interested in the world of concept art should know off him as he does some fantastic work and is a great inspiration) he was asked how do you balance work and life, his response was plane you can't balance it, if you want to be in this industry then be in this industry, work your heart out and study hard once and if you become successful and start working normal (normal for us anyway) hours then you can rebuild your life. at first i thought no you can build a life along with work but the more i work the more i realise he is kind of right to produce the work to the standard that you want you need to live your work. unfortunately  this couldn't come at a worse time the other half is working over time and i'm left to look after the ill little bunnies.... at least it might give me some time to read....

in other news the side project i'm working should be completed by Wednesday hopefully it will end up on newgrounds! i'm still working on my dissertation, finished the body model just need to work on the cloths now...

character designs that i'll be doing are
from left to right, Mage, Knight, Berserker and Archer. the designs are based on rune scape style and these design are aimed to be modulised i realise there s a few problems with the armour working but i'll fix that in the modelling stage as i work better in 3D than i do on paper... makes me wonder why i did a concept course...

Get Inspired

Slugging away on projects is hard at times as sometimes you hit a brick wall and come to a stop other times you just can't bring yourself to sit and work even cleaning the dishes you left from last week sometimes seams more appealing than going back to work on a model that you have been working on for weeks.
Every now and then you need a push in the right direction and for me i think i have found it, well for now at least.

An artist called Jon Nickel who's work i have seen all over the place but i had never realised that it was the same guy until today. it started with the normal depression of "wow this dude work is extremely detailed and producing work that is way out of my reach" to then noticing he has all of his work from 2004 ish. Seeing a professional artists progression i find is always a breath of fresh air. Seeing that progression from what they used to produce to what they produce now always astounds me how much people can improve with practice.  Key word here is practice and feel like i need more of it to start that process of improvement.

anyway enough of me blabbing you can find the artist i mentioned http://hazardousarts.deviantart.com

in other news i'm still working on my dino!
